The practice behind
TONGLEN: THE PRACTICE OF GIVING AND TAKING.
In this practice, one visualizes taking in the sorrow of oneself and of others on the in-breath, and on the out-breath giving recognition, compassion, and succor to all sentient beings.
Start with a loved one, e.g. your mother, your father or your children or maybe your neighbor. Later, you can extend this practice – step by step – to all beings in the universe. Don't try it, do it!
You forgot the practice once? It doesn't matter, it's always 12:00 p.m. somewhere.
You are a smoker? Good as well! If you already want to smoke, then do it as a practice: Inhale the sorrow of all beings with the smoke and exhale happiness ;-) .
